Törggelen hiking routes in and around Brixen
Truly authentic experiences
The harvest festival of Törggelen is part and parcel of life in Brixen. What could be better than an autumn hike through the glorious golden countryside, before sampling some delicious dumplings, barley soup or stuffed pasta? The best places to enjoy this tradition are along the Keschtnweg (Chestnut Trail) long-distance hiking route or the circular Törggele-Rundweg hiking trail. Here are a few hiking recommendations.
Our weekly planned guided hikes are accompanied by German and Italian speaking hiking guides. Our guides are ready to join you on a guided hike in English. Simply contact us for further information and to organise your hike. Discover some tour examples here for inspiration.

The Chestnut Trail
Hike along the Keschtnweg Chestnut Trail in Brixen to discover chestnut groves towering metre upon metre into the sky. This 90-kilometre trail winds its way through colourful mixed forests and lush green meadows. From an old wooden bench under one particular chestnut tree – or “bread tree” (Brotbaum), as chestnut trees are also called in these parts – you can even enjoy a wonderful view all the way across Brixen’s valley basin. The hiking trail also passes by numerous farmhouse inns, making it especially popular during the Törggelen season.
Törggelen circular walk in Neustift
This spectacular walk takes you through Italy’s northernmost vineyards and offers picturesque views across Brixen and its surrounding forests, villages and summits. Don’t miss out on a break at one of the local vineyards or the Stiftskeller wine cellar at Neustift Monastery as you pass through Neustift and Vahrn. Before you know it, you’ll have spent a good few hours discussing South Tyrolean wines with the local winegrowers over delicious chestnuts and a glass of wine. Our tip: Set off on this easy walk early so that you have plenty of time to enjoy the beautiful autumn colours and to get to know the local winegrowers and their excellent wines.
