A town full of beautiful artwork
Art and culture in Brixen
Brixen’s rich history has made it the spiritual and cultural centre of South Tyrol. The town’s spectacular buildings are a reminder of its glorious past and the significant role once played by the church. With its ornate allegorical ceiling frescoes, the late-baroque seminary library in the old town is an excellent example of this. The Neustift Monastery of the Augustinian Canons – just a ten-minute car journey from the town centre – is also home to buildings and artwork from across the centuries dating right back to the Middle Ages. And if you’re looking for something more recent, the City Gallery in Brixen’s famous arcades uses contemporary art to provide a political, social and economic commentary on modern society.
