STEFANO CAGOL - NOT TO LOSE (THE STARS)
Cusanus Academy
Not to lose (the stars)
Light makes you see better but can blind you.
Stefano Cagol recalls it in an artwork inspired by the privileged gazes of astronauts, which generates an ecological message through the vision of the stars from Earth and our planet from space, and then suddenly dazzles us with blinding headlamps, a light that immobilises for a few seconds. The work thus reflects on our relationship with brightness, between natural and artificial, and stimulates a more balanced use, preserving the dark skies.
Cagol collected thoughts by talking with important astronauts such as Luca Parmitano, the first Italian to command the International Space Station, and Reid Wiseman, who will lead the next NASA mission around the Moon, Artemis II, the first crewed spacecraft to leave low Earth orbit since 1972.
The work is site-specific at the Academy named after the astronomer Nicolaus Cusanus, based in Brixen in the 15th century, who has been an incredible forerunner of the modern perception of the cosmos.
